—Checks and maintenance
Electrical maintenance for a shop
In a shop, a dark display or a dead till costs sales. Maintenance is planned around trading hours, not the other way round.
Retail units rely heavily on lighting — display spots, shelf lighting, window lighting and illuminated signage — as well as power for tills, card terminals, security and refrigeration where relevant. Lighting runs long hours and drivers and lamps fail in batches. Signage and window lighting are often on timers that drift or reset.
Maintenance guides describe the checks that find problems while they are still small.
Maintenance usually means a routine check of lighting and controls, the distribution board, sockets at counters and back-of-house, and signage supplies, done before opening or after closing. In malls, the centre’s rules on working hours, permits and contractors apply.
