Installing an electric towel rail
A heated towel rail is a small luxury that combines electricity and a bathroom. The rules for both apply.
Electric towel rails are usually hard-wired rather than plugged in, connected through a fused spur or similar outlet placed according to bathroom zone rules. A timer or switch outside the bathroom lets the rail run only when wanted, which matters for running costs in a warm climate.
Installation guides cover what a fitting or appliance needs from the electrics before it goes on the wall or ceiling.
The rail must be fixed securely through tiles into the wall behind. Positions are planned with the shower, basin and door to keep the rail clear of splashes and walkways. Installation is easier during a bathroom renovation, when cable routes can be hidden.
